ABRSD offers health plans through MIIA and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Coverage types are either individual or family, with dependent children eligible for coverage until age 26. Copies of marriage and birth certificates are required if dependents’ last names do not match the subscriber’s.
Network Blue HMO: This traditional HMO plan requires referrals by your primary care physician (PCP). There are also co-pays for non-preventative services. Deductible: $500 individual/$1000 family.
Network Blue SELECT HMO: This plan is identical to the traditional HMO, but with a limited network of providers and hospitals.
Access Blue High-Deductible HMO with HSA: This is an HMO plan with a higher deductible: $1700 individual/$3400 family. You are responsible for the full-cost of health services until your deductible is met. The High-Deductible plans also include a Health Savings Account (HSA) through HealthEquity, which can be used to help off-set the cost of your out-of-pocket medical expenses.
PPO Plan: The Blue Cross PPO is the highest level of plan offered, with access to BCBS’s national network of doctors, hospitals, and specialists. Some out of network coverage is also available.

FSA plans run from July 1st thru June 30th each year. The deadline to re-enroll each year is May 31st. Health Care and/or a Dependent Care Accounts are available.
- You must re-enroll each year. Existing participants can re-new online here. New Enrollees must complete the FSA Enrollment form and submit to Cafeteria Plan Advisors (now ebm).
- You can use your FSA Health Care funds to pay for health insurance deductibles and co-pays with our low deductible HMO plans.
- You can have a Dependent Care Account regardless of your health insurance plan.
- You cannot have an FSA Health Care account if you or your spouse is contributing to an HSA (Health Savings Account).

If you enroll in the Blue Cross Blue Shield High Deductible health plan, you will automatically be enrolled in an HSA with HealthEquity The district will contribute an amount equal to half of your yearly deductible into your HSA. You cannot contribute to an HSA if you or your spouse has a current health FSA, or if you are enrolled in any other health insurance, including Medicare.

For 2026, Acton-Boxborough will offer Medicare eligible retirees the Medicare PPO Blue with Freedom Rx plan from MIIA/Blue Cross Blue Shield. The cost for this plan is $256.13 per person, per month. Members must also be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.
